December 3, 2019 is #GivingTuesday! Make YOUR Donation to the League Potential Made Possible Campaign!
The League of Women in Government Board is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Potential Made Possible Leadership Program which was created in 2018 to address the need for more professional development for women in local government. In particular, the Potential Made Possible initiative focuses on the needs of early career women and women in smaller communities whose budgets are not able to support leadership and management training opportunities.
“This year’s theme, Lift as YOU Rise in 2020, represents the role that mentors and advocates have played in our careers and the need to assist others as they advance through the ranks,” stated incoming League President Kelly Houghteling. “The League leadership scholarship program is designed to help women attend important conferences and leadership programs that they wouldn’t be able to attend without our support.”
The League began with a simple mission: to advance women to leadership positions in local government. With #GivingTuesday donations, the League will be able to provide scholarships to women in need of professional development opportunities. To that end, the League Board identified several learning opportunities and conferences that would add value to programming offered by state associations or regional groups for women in local government. The following opportunities were selected for scholarships in 2020:
Strategic Government Resources – Annual Conference
National Forum for Black Public Administrators Annual Forum
International City/County Management Association Annual Conference
Local Government Hispanic Network Biennial Conference
University Leadership Programs
“To move the needle forward on the number of female chief executives in local government, we need to better support training and development for women,” added League CAO, Pamela Antil. “Nearly forty percent of women serve as assistant chief executives in cities/counties and many do not receive support to attend national conferences and professional leadership programs. That is why the League Board selected these events for funding.”
